#10: Permission

I wrote this post because of the overwhelming number of messages we receive that say something like:

"I would love to make (insert Shibaguyz Designz pattern name here) but I just wouldn't look good in (insert color in pattern photo here)."

OR

"I would love to make (insert Shibaguyz Designz pattern name here) but I can't afford/can't find the yarn you made it in."

This post is our official Permission to go on with your own FAB creative self, pick a color or yarn you like, and CREATE!

Technique Tuesday - First Double Crochet Tutorial by Shibaguyz Designz

#9: Technique Tuesday - First Double Crochet

If, like me, you've always wanted a cleaner edge on your crochet fabrics, don't miss this step-by-step photo tutorial for the First Double Crochet Stitch. Experimentation to develop this technique lead me to a happy place full of unicorns, rainbows, cheesecake, chocolate, and puppies. Yes, we included a photo of a Shiba Inu puppy to illustrate the joy of that happy place. And… ya know… PUPPIES!!
#8: Filigree Leaf Tunic Digital Crochet Pattern

No matter the season, this crochet pattern is a best seller year round. The lace pattern (chart included in the pattern!) is stunning, the fit is easy, and the style looks good on every body type and shape.  Right now, we are hearing folks are making this piece for those upcoming holiday parties and the folks in the Southern Hemisphere are looking toward Spring and Summer with thoughts of the perfect layering piece.

Chrysanthemum Shrug Digital Crochet Pattern by Shibaguyz Designz

#7: Chrysanthemum Shrug Digital Crochet Pattern

Another crochet pattern that transcends season, this smart little shrug is based on our original Chrysanthemum motif and uses worsted weight yarn and no-sew construction. This really is one of those projects you could make in a relatively short amount of time.
#6: Technique Tuesday - Foundation Single Crochet

Foundation stitches are how we start most of our designs here at Shibaguyz Designz. After becoming quickly disillusioned with the chain edges that traditionally started most crochet garments, we found this technique in a Japanese stitch dictionary. There were no English words but the photo tutorial led us to the perfect elastic edge we were looking for to include in the hems, necklines, and cuffs of our designs.

Inspirations Past and Present - Part 1 by Shibaguyz Designz (The Little Dutch Boy Quilt)

#5: Inspirations Past and Present - Part 1

This post started out as a simple, light-hearted article about all the quilts and afghans we have here in our home. This post ended up being a journey for both of us realizing just how much we were influenced by those makers who came before us. We honor some of those makers from Shannon's side of the family tree in this post about The Little Dutch Boy quilt.
#4: Men's Hooded Vest Digital Crochet Pattern

This one's for the guys and it is one of our favorite men's patterns we've ever designed… and it seems like y'all agree! Coming in at #4 this week, we're sure folks are dreaming of the cooler Fall and Winter temps coming to us up here in the Northern Hemispheres. But it seems like folks in the Southern Hemisphere are also seeing the advantages of a hoodie for layering as they move into their Spring/Summer season.

#3: Technique Tuesday - Woven Cables Pattern Stitch Part 2: Double Treble Right Cross Crochet Cable

By far, our most popular free download in the Shibaguyz Designz online store our booklet: Crochet Gives Back - 8 Free Afghan Blocks for Warm Up America. In that booklet is our Woven Cables afghan block with is by far our most blogged about, pinned, and adapted pattern. That all leads up to this tutorial for the second part of the Woven Cables pattern stitch. Make sure to follow the links in the post to the free download and to Part 1 to complete our step-by-step photo tutorial of this FAB stitch pattern.
#2: Technique Tuesday - Woven Cables Pattern Stitch Part 1: Double Treble Left Cross Crochet Cable

Of course, you could always just follow this link to Part 1 of that tutorial. It makes sense that this post would come in right next to the Part 2 tutorial. Now you can make the entire Woven Cables pattern stitch. Can't wait to see what y'all make with it!

#1 Technique Tuesday - Locking Mattress Stitch

Every once in a while, we log on to our site stats page and find something has, somehow gone viral. In the case of our #1 visited page on Shibaguyz Designz this week, we have Haley over on the Make: magazine webite to thank for this week's pleasant unexpected viral surprise. Haley picked up our Locking Mattress Stitch tutorial and shared it with the Makezine.com readers. You can see her post by CLICKING HERE. Leave 'em a nice comment thanking them for featuring crochet on their site!

Of course you can also access the tutorial by going directly to the post on the Shibaguyz Designz site by CLICKING HERE.

Do NOT miss Haley's own website The Zen of Making. She is one of our favorite people in the craft industry because of her great attitude and honest approach to the crafting life… and her Tiny Cranky Haley cartoons are just about the happiest/cranky thing you'll ever see. (Tell her she needs to start Tiny Cranky Haley a t-shirt line!)
